When it rains it pours! Thousands of Bay Area residents, myself included, have been hit with a devastating blow from Mother Nature this week with one of the worst rain storms seen in years. Now I know we are very spoiled here in California with such a mild climate and seasons compared to most everywhere else in the United States, but Mother Nature can be relentless at times. The impact it has on us and our surrounding community physically, emotionally and environmentally can bring an extremely rapid onset of compounded stress. As you try to evacuate your family, gather most critical documents and belongings, all the while praying the rain will grant enough of a reprieve for the rising flood waters to stop and recede.
Physically you go into “fight or flight mode”, while emotionally you might feel a sense of fear and helplessness.
Now that the rains have stopped, you are left with the task of picking up the pieces and rebuilding. This can bring with it a whole other set of emotions (sadness, anger, compounded grief, anxiety).
When I was younger I used to believe in the “mind over matter” philosophy, in fact, it was part of my training in Gymnastics. However, through maturity, I came to realize that you can only ignore a “problem” for so long before it becomes an even bigger “problem”. Physical injuries will worsen and spread to other parts of the body by means of compensation. Emotional injuries, if buried and ignored will resurface in our bodies due to our own compensatory efforts to purge what is making us ill.
So how do we distress in the midsts of chaos?? Perhaps you’ve tried yoga, breathing exercises, aerobic exercise, nutritional supplementation, even therapy. Yes, many can share stories of how those methods have worked for them. Heck, even I use all of the above mentioned, but there is one more option that seems to be evolving in the consciousness of humans globally. A method that has been used for thousands of years but has never truly received the respect or acknowledgment it deserves.
Last night I met up with several close friends for dinner. We talked about our lives, our work, our joys and our struggles but when we talked about the tools we use to cope with all things mentioned, we found another common thread of knowledge and curiosity. This tool is called doTerra. “doTERRA International, LLC produces and distributes exceptionally high-quality CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® essential oils”. One thing most of us had in common at the dining table was our difficulty obtaining quality sleep. We talked about the use of essential oils over other pharmaceutical alternatives. My girlfriend (that was hosting the dinner party) and I both use doTerra as part of our everyday lives. She quickly sprung up from the table and grabbed her vial of Serenity oil which she claims has helped her significantly with her sleep.
“doTERRA Serenity Restful Blend has a calming and relaxing aroma that provides a unique user experience. This perfectly balanced, a tranquil blend can be felt immediately, transporting the user to a state of blissful repose. doTERRA Serenity combines essential oils renowned for their ability to lessen feelings of tension and calm emotions, and support a restful sleep when used aromatically. Apply one to two drops to the hands and inhale throughout the day to help reduce worry from life’s daily stressors, or diffuse at night to help quiet a restless baby or child. The addition of Cedarwood, Ho Wood, and Vetiver essential oils gives dōTERRA Serenity a grounding aroma that calms the mind and soothes the senses. doTERRA Serenity can be used in conjunction with doTERRA Serenity Restful Complex Softgels. The doTERRA Serenity essential oil blend creates a relaxing environment while the softgels promote a restful night’s sleep”.
doTERRA International, LLC produces and distributes exceptionally high quality CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® essential oils. The use of essential oils has been in practice for thousands of years. When approximately 75% of those gathered around a dinner table can attest to the significant benefits of essential oils in there life to reduce the effects of stress from their emotional and physical environment, maybe its worth a try.
It was once said by Dalai Lama: Sleep is the best meditation.
Feel free to message me with questions. Wishing you peace amidst the chaos.
